FINESSE HONEYS | ELROSABEL

by Finesse Finesse

Stepping into the world of Elrosabel is like entering a pastel dreamscape filled with playful chaos and feminine power. Lisa Rosabel Dino, known as Elrosabel, is a multidisciplinary artist who has built a space where illustration, graphic design, and the intricate craft of art toys collide. Her work balances vibrant femininity with dynamic colour contrasts, drawing inspiration from personal experiences and an endless curiosity for creative exploration.

Originally from New Zealand and now based in Naarm/Melbourne, Lisa has always been drawn to creative fields. From early dreams of photography and fashion to studying graphic design at TAFE, she found a way to merge her love for branding and aesthetics into a visual style that is unapologetically her own.

In early 2024, Lisa took a bold leap into Melbourne’s art market scene—something she once found daunting as a naturally introverted creative. But instead of just selling art, she found community, connection, and a renewed passion for sharing her work beyond the digital space. Whether it’s through her Spook-E-Mart collection (a fusion of Japanese konbini culture and spooky aesthetics) or the creation of The Bloopi, Lisa continues to push boundaries and experiment with new forms of storytelling.

You’ve been creating under the name Elrosabel since 2016. What initially sparked your passion for art, and how did you decide to pursue it professionally?

I’ve been artistic since I was really young so the prospect of pursuing a creative life was honestly the only thing I saw for my future self. Growing up in my teens I was heavily inspired by fashion and street art magazines. I first wanted to be a photographer, then a fashion designer, a tattoo artist, musician - the possibilities of doing anything creatively were endless for me but what really kick started it was simply studying Graphic Design at TAFE. I fell in love with everything design related and learnt how to brand myself and my art. Though design and art are two very different things, I am passionate for both and have managed to implement both practices in my professional career.

Your work often balances vibrant femininity with dynamic elements and contrasts of pastel hues. How did you develop this distinctive aesthetic, and have any personal experiences influenced this tone in your work?

I’m naturally drawn to colour, whether it’s monochromatic or rainbows. Choosing chaos in colour and having a more feminine approach to my work is important as it’s a reflection of my identity. The use of pastel and bright colour palettes act as a visual representation of my inner child and my softer sensitive side but it’s also my own way of expressing self confidence and empowerment. I love colour experimentation and applying delicious palettes to create a piece that will entice the viewer.

Joining Melbourne’s art market scene seems to have sparked a sense of belonging for you. How has this community shaped your view of collaboration and creative exchange?

Finally taking that leap into doing art markets in 2024 was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my career and even though I’m a late bloomer in the market scene, it was the perfect time for me to flourish and reinvent myself, to reintroduce my art and put it out there for a wider audience. Being surrounded by like-minded artists combined with enthusiastic market-goers has given me the support and validation that I never knew I needed until I experienced it. Meeting people face to face and connecting with them through my artwork is so rewarding and motivates me to keep doing what I love.

Your colourful, playful style often feels empowering. What message do you hope to convey to those who connect with your art?

“Stay soft and sassy” - this my own little mantra to myself because that’s how I like to express myself in my work. I apply this to my art style which is unapologetically girly and a little edgy. I think my work attracts individuals who resonate with the same aesthetic or personality that they perceive in my work. I find it fascinating when I meet strangers who can feel empowered by art the same way I do when I create it.

How does your experience as a multidisciplinary artist shape the way you approach everyday style and self-expression?

My personal taste in style and fashion is ever-changing just like my practices in creating art. I gravitate towards constant growth and experimentation which to some might look like an identity crisis but honestly I just love to appreciate everything around me, trying new things while discovering what I love along the way. I use to think I was always into pastels and that that was what defined me but in my more recent years of self-expression, I’ve found that I’m actually a closet alt girl. I’m vibing more with that darker grungy aesthetic which I feel coincides with the music I listen to. But watch this space and you’ll later catch me wearing all neutrals one day probably.

Would you consider your vibe calm or chaotic?

Both! There is never one defining aura for me. Some people know me as very chill but those who know me really well know I can be chaotic. For the most part I think I am pretty calm on the outside and I unleash more of the chaos in my art and self-expression.

The last thing you Googled for creative inspiration?

Snake - I’m currently sketching out a new piece for an upcoming group show.

If you could give your younger self one creative tip, what would it be?

Screw your fake deadlines! You know the ones you give yourself when completing a project? This can be so toxic especially if you put unnecessary pressure on yourself. Art takes time. Make a realistic set of goals and include breaks during the process. Rest is productivity.

Looking ahead, what’s the next project or collection you’re most excited to work on?

I’m looking forward to bringing back Spook-E-Mart later this year which was my most popular collection that I launched in 2024, inspired by Japanese konbini’s with my own spooky twist. Also making more art toys. It’s a newfound skill and huge challenge for me, creating 3D pieces, but I’ve been a bit slack lately. My goal is to make more tangible artwork this year so hopefully you’ll see more dimension from me and fun new artworks throughout the year.
